Guwahati: Powered by Rajesh Mohanty’s splendid bowling performance, Odisha defeated Assam by 9 wickets in a group stage match of the Ranji Trophy today being held at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium here.
Mohanty was adjudged Player of the Match for taking 11 wickets (5 wickets in Assam’s first innings and 6 wickets in the second innings).
Winning the toss, Odisha had opted to bowl first. In its first innings, Assam could manage to post only 121 runs, thanks to Mohanty’s five-wicket haul.
Odisha replied 240 runs all out with opener Anurag Sarangi being the highest scorer (77 runs) followed by skipper Biplab Samantray (62 runs). The visiting team got a significant lead of 119 in the first innings.
In the second innings, Assam once again succumbed to Mohanty’s bowling performance as the team scored mere 132 runs, posting a very small target of 13 runs for Odisha.
The required runs were achieved by Odisha in 3.3 overs with a loss of one wicket.
