Fighting innings by speedster Biplab Samantaray helped Odisha draw the Ranji match with Delhi played at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Cricket Stadium, Mohali.

The tail-enders put up a solid defence to survive defeat in the hands of formidable Delhi team. Thought they managed to see through the day, the Delhi team put up three points on table on the basis of first innings lead. Odisha managed to secure one point.

Delhi won the toss and put Odisha to bat.

Odisha began its innings with a poor start as its opening batsmen were bowled out cheaply. The first wicket was down at 8 and the second was at 15.

Odisha batsmen were bundled out for 237 in the first innings. Subhransu Senapati and Biplab Samantaray were the top scorers with 76 and 62 respectively.

Opening the second innings, captain Gautam Gambhir and Unmukt Chand batted brilliantly and remained unbeaten on the first day. The first wicket fell on the second day of the match after Unmukt was bowled out for 19 when the team total was at 57.

The team put up a massive total of 495/8 and declared its first innings.

Chasing a mammoth total of nearly 500 runs, the first wicket fell when the score was 11. The batsmen failed to build up partnerships and wickets kept falling in regular intervals.

Odisha captain Goving Poddar’s 56 runs, Biplab Samantaray’ 88 and Saurabh Rawat’s 55 helped draw the innings. The team scored 274/8 at stumps on day four.
