A fine century by R Dewan and a hurricane half century by S Rana put Haryana in a commanding position against Odisha on the second day of the Ranji Trophy Elite-A tournament at the East Coast Railway stadium here on Tuesday.
The duo put up an unbeaten 141-run partnership for the third wicket taking the Haryana score to 294 for 2 at close of play.
Earlier, the hosts who began at their overnight score at 221 for 9 were soon bowled out for 242.
Amit Mishra, who was named in the Indian squad for the forthcoming tour of New Zealand during the day, was the pick of the Haryana bowlers claiming 4 wickets.
The visitors began their innings in an aggressive mode as the two openers R Dewan and AA Barot put up 143 runs for the first wicket before the latter was dismissed by Niranjan Behera for 60. Sunny Singh did not last long holing out to Girija Rout off the bowling of Behera for 6.
With the score at 153 for 2, S Rana joined Dewan and played a swashbuckling knock of 83 off 103 balls laced with eight fours and four sixes. The duo went on to frustrate the hosts till the close of play.
Barring Niranjan Behera who claimed two wickets, the other bowlers were hammered at will.
Already 52 runs ahead, Haryana are all set to take a massive first innings lead with eight wickets in hand.
