Balangir: The Rajendra College in Bolangir will soon be upgraded to a university, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced this during his visit to the town today.
Addressing a conclave of Biju Yuva Vahini at the college ground here, Patnaik said “The Odisha Government is seriously considering on upgradation of Rajendra College.”
Sources said students of the college had been demanding for the university tag for the institution. At the conclave, BJD youth activists also put forth the long-pending demand of college students before the CM. In response, the CM assured them to develop the college into an university.
“Around five months ago, we had met MP Kalikesh Singh Deo and submitted a memorandum addressing to the PM demanding university status for our college. We are very happy that the CM today promised us to fulfil our demand,” said an upbeat student of the college.
On the occasion, the CM exhorted the youths to adopt the ideology and service-oriented approach of King Rajendra Narayan Singh Deo.
Meanwhile, the BJP’s youth wing criticised the conclave of Biju Yuva Vahini saying that though the CM assured to accord university status to Rajendra College, he did not make any announcement for employment of youth in the district.
