Bhubaneswar, Feb 8:
The schedule for Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s two-day visit to the state beginning Sunday, which had already undergone several changes, was changed yet again on Saturday.
As per the revised programme schedule, the Gandhi scion will go to Bhatapada village near Salepur in Cuttack to address a public meeting soon after arriving here tomorrow morning at 10 am. He will hold a ‘road show’ on the way to Bhatapada, Congress leaders looking after his programme said.
As per the earlier programme, the Congress No. 2 was scheduled to move straight to the Nehru Yuva Kendra near AG square from the airport and interact with the students on Sunday. The event will now take place at the Nehru Yuva Kendra on Monday, Congress sources said.
Rahul was scheduled to interact with the students at OUAT, which was shifted to the Yuva Kendra for security reasons.
He will also hold a meeting with different leaders of minority communities on Sunday evening at Bhubaneswar. He would stay at the state guesthouse for the night. The change of venue was on account of ‘security reasons’, Subhankar Sarkar, AICC in-charge for Odisha, told media persons here today. The SPG, which looks after Rahul’s security, had advised against holding the interaction at the OUAT campus, he revealed.
It may be noted that an interaction with students of DRIEMS at Tangi originally scheduled on the way to Bhatapada on Sunday, has already been cancelled for the same reason.
On his return from Bhatapada, Gandhi will interact with members of the minority community in the evening before retiring for the night at the State Guest House..
The next day, the Congress leader will interact with the party office bearers and other leaders at the Nehru Yuva Kendra.
As per the original schedule, the Gandhi scion was to address six public meetings during his two-day visit, all but one of which now stand cancelled.
