Bhubaneswar, Aug 29:
Congress second in command Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit Odisha any day between September 20 to 30, said PCC president Jaydev Jena.
After meeting the Congress vice-president in New Delhi today, Jena said Rahul will address a public rally in Bhubaneswar and address a press meet during his visit.
Rahul will also visit Rayagada and Kalahandi and meet Dongria Kondhs and attend public rallies in the two districts. Gandhi, who had claimed himself as the sipahi of tribals in New Delhi during his visit to Niyamgiri in August 2010, had assured that he would protect the interests of tribals, who were opposing mining in the Niyamgiri hills for the Vedanta alumina refinery project at Lanjigarh.
As all 12 Gram Sabhas have already rejected the proposal to excavate minerals from the sacred hills, Rahul’s visit will be a victory celebration of sorts.
Jena said he also discussed the party strategy for the urban local body election with the Congress scion during his meeting today.
