Cuttack, Sep 14:
Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi’s jibe at the Odisha government’s lack of focus on health in the context of serial infant deaths at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Paediatrics (SVPPGIP) has had at least one positive result when a new service to treat ailing mothers accompanying their sick children was started at the premier paediatric hospital better known as Sishu Bhawan.
“We have opened a facility on here on Saturday for treating lactating mothers suffering from various post-delivery complications and requiring proper treatment while accompanying sick newborns for treatment here. Gynaecologists from the SCB Medical College and Hospital would come here for two hours daily to treat sick mothers,” said newly appointed Sishu Bhawan Superintendent Saroj Satpathy.
Moreover, the hospital has started a grievances redressal mechanism to put an end to alleged improper behavior of some nurses and hospital staff towards parents and attendants of the sick children. The newly appointed administrative officer (AO) would hold a ‘grievance cell’ daily between 8-10 PM.
Besides, a ‘help desk service’ that would function from 6 AM to 10 PM has also been introduced for parents and attendants, the Superintendent added.
He said efforts are on to restore the past glory and image of the Sishu Bhawan by putting a lot of administrative measures into practice to discipline the staff and address grievances of the sick children’s parents and attendants.
