The students to be rusticated include undergraduate students of second, third and fourth year and few post graduate students. Disciplinary action will be also taken against 10 more students in the case.

This was informed by OUAT vice chancellor Manoranjan Kar. The meeting discussed in detail allegations of ragging levelled by first year Forestry students against senior students of the varsity before taking the decision.

“We are going to rusticate the culprits. There were allegations of ragging against 15 students. We are examining the allegations. We have decided to rusticate five students. They will be rusticated for a period of one year. We will announce the names tomorrow. We are examining the allegations against the others named in the complaint,” said Kar while briefing reporters after the disciplinary committee meeting.

Notably, 10 to 12 junior students of Forestry department had complained of ragging by senior students on Tuesday.

Angry junior students gheraoed the Office of Dean for a while demanding action and lodged an FIR at Khandagiri police station.

In their FIR to the police, some of the boarders of Pathani Samanta Hostel of the university alleged that they were beaten brutally by the seniors on the night of November 19 and two of them were seriously injured in the incident.

However, the university authorities and anti-ragging committee had taken no action irrespective of repeated complaints.
