Sambalpur: A team of police from Visakhapatnam, which is probing into the death of Shreyas Kesharwani, an Odisha boy from Sambalpur district who died due to alleged ragging at Visakhapatnam-based Sri Chaitanya College hostel, questioned the parents of the deceased here today.

The four-member team also questioned some doctors and authorities at Ispat General Hospital in Rourkela, where the boy was undergoing treatment before being shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

The post-mortem report of the deceased has revealed that severe pressure on chest led to deterioration in his health condition which subsequently resulted in his death.

“Three major things came to fore after the post-mortem. Firstly, there was contusion in heart. Secondly, there was pulmonary effusion and lastly, blood clot inside lungs. A severe pressure on chest can only result in such kind of injury,” said Chittaranjan Das, Director, Capital Hospital.

Notably, Sreyas (16), son of Shailesh Kesharwani of Garposh under Bamara block in Sambalpur district and a +2 student, died on January 6 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar after allegedly undergoing ragging by his classmates.

According to Shailesh, his son was beaten mercilessly by the latter’s friends in the first week of December, last year. They had warned him of dire consequences for revealing the incident to anyone, he said.

While undergoing treatment at Ispat General Hospital, Sreyas had narrated the ordeal to his family members besides naming some of his friends involved in the alleged ragging.
