Happy after their fairy tale visit to the recent Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi, as special invitees of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Bonda couple from Odisha said they will be more satisfied if their village gets basic amenities.
The Bonda couple has never dreamt of going to Delhi and meeting the Prime Minister. They are the first from the Bonda tribe to travel to the country’s capital. But, they have said that they will be happier if their village is developed and has basic amenities like education, health, transportation and drinking water facilities.
The couple, residents of Bandiguda village under Mudulipada gram panchayat of Malkangiri district received a letter inviting them to the Republic Day parade in New Delhi this year. Before leaving for Delhi, they also met the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in Bhubaneswar.
The tribal couple Samari Sisa (46) and Dhabalu Sisa (41) belonging to the Bonda tribe belong to a particularly vulnerable tribal group (PVTG).
The couple had an exciting time travelling for the first time by train and airplane. After meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, they also met the President, Vice President, Union Defence minister and the Union Tribal Affairs minister.
We also visited places like the Red Fort in Delhi, Taj Mahal in Agra, Mathura, Indira Gandhi Museum, Lotus Temple, etc. To make these moments memorable photographs were also taken by the officials, the couple said.
They said that they have asked for education, health, transportation and drinking water to be given to their village which lacks even basic facilities to the higher authorities. If the village receives development then they will be most satisfaction, they said.
