Bhubaneswar, Apr 25:
Sserious questions have been raised over the citizenship of the Principal of College of Forestry, Bhubaneswar under the Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology (OUAT).
While some students of the college have been sitting on a dharna demanding his ouster, the Dean of the college has written to the registrar requesting a CBI inquiry into the issue.
The students have alleged that the principal, MM Hussain, has been sitting in an important post of Government even though he is not an Indian citizen. Moreover, he has taken more than Rs 10 crores as salary and other perks from government for carrying out his duties while there is no mention of his address in Hussain’s employment record. The OUAT administration, which is fully aware of it, is sitting over the files.
They have further alleged that the principal had shown his native place as Inatnagar village, PO- Moretpur under Mursidabad district of West Bengal during the verification of the permanent addresses of employees back in 2009. However, the SP of Mursidabad had written to the state government stating that no such village exists.
The OUAT authorities have not acted though they were aware about it since 2009.
The issue came to the fore again after an advocate named SB Pradhan knocked on the doors of High Court on the issue, following which the court ordered an inquiry. The state government has recently written to the OUAT authorities to get a police inquiry done.
On the other hand, the principal has rubbished the allegations.
“This allegation is baseless. Some of the students and professors have plotted against me. A former principal, whose brother is a powerful IAS officer, is leading the charge. The Intelligence Department and Police of West Bengal have written to Odisha government stating that I am a native of West Bengal. I have the supporting documents and the OUAT authorities are aware about it. However, the students and professors are trying to malign me intentionally,” said Hussain.
