Rayagada, July 29:
A public hearing on possible environment pollution due to the expansion the alumina refinery and power plant of the Sterlite company at Lanjigarh in Odisha’s Kalahandi district, is scheduled at Lanjigarh tomorrow.
The hearing would be held on the increase of production capacity of the Sterlite plant from 1 MTPA to 6 MTPA.
The company has also decided to increase the capacity of its captive power plant (CPP) from 75 mega thermal power (MTP) to 240 MTP.
To run its plant, the company at present is importing coal and bauxite ore from Goa, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Gujarat as well as Chile and South Africa.
The company is hopeful that the state government would provide it the required raw material to run its plant as it has been catering to the interests of the local people.
“We are confident that the public hearing would go in favour of the company”, said KK Dave, COO (Lanjigarh) at a press briefing here today.
