Rourkela: Odisha police arrested a fake examinee who was found writing the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), the premier entrance examination for admission into undergraduate MBBS and BDS courses across the country, in place of an original candidate here on Sunday.
Ramesh Kumar, a native of Dunguri village of Rajasthan, was arrested by Uditnagar Police in the Steel City, while attending the exam for a student of Odisha.
According to police, the Rajasthan man was appearing exam for one S. Biswal of Khurda district at DAV School in Basanti Colony and it is suspected that a proxy examinee racket is involved behind the incident.
“Kumar’s body language and behaviour was quite suspicious during checking before the exam. On being interrogated, he revealed everything to us,” said Uditnagar Police Inspector-In-Charge Dibyakanti Lakra.
Over 13 lakh candidates, including 40,000 from the State, appeared for the exam on Sunday at 2,225 centres across the country with authorities conducting stringent checks on dress code to avoid any malpractice during the examination.
