Bhubaneswar, Jun 29:
Hundreds of protesters, including the family members and the associates of the contractor Dillip Nayak (33), who was shot dead at Patrapada on the outskirts of the Odisha capital on June 18, today protested outside the Khandagiri police station demanding the arrest of the main accused involved in the shootout case at the earliest.
The protestors marched from Aiginia Square to the Khandagiri police station blocking the NH-5 due to which commuters faced problems for hours.
The family members of the deceased, along with the members of Ambedkar Mission Foundation, blocked the road to protest the failure of the police to arrest Rajendra Barik, the main accused, who had shot dead the contractor.
Later, the agitators met Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Satyabrata Bhoi and urged him to nab Barik as soon as possible.
The situation was brough to normal after the DCP assured the relatives of Nayak that they have launched a search operation and Barik will be apprehended very soon.
Police have so far arrested two persons in connection with the case. However, sources said Barik, who reportedly shot Nayak dead in broad daylight at an under-construction building site near AIIMS in Patrapada June 18, has fled from Bhubaneswar along with his associates.
