Ahead of the Coal India HIL (Hockey India League), the promotional campaign for the Odisha based hockey team ‘Kalinga Lancers’ was inaugurated at IDCO Towers today.
Vehicles designed to resemble hockey goal posts with the team’s branding were unveiled by Managing Director of IDCO Sanjay Kumar Singh. These vehicles shall be part of a road show that will roam around the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar to activate maximum audience engagement before the league begins on January 18, 2016.
The state based team would also carry a new logo themed on ‘Odisha: New Opportunity’ on their jersey to promote the vibrant business opportunities in the state.
Germany’s Moritz Fuerste who drew the highest ever bid in the history of the tournament is most likely to captain the team.
Kalinga Lancers have retained 6 players: the Indian troika of forwards Lalit Upadhyay, Devindar Sunil Walimiki and defender Gurjinder Singh, Australian National team goalkeeper Andrew Charter and defender Aran Zalewski, Indian national junior team’s defender and local hero Dipsan Tirkey.
National Player striker Dharamvir Singh and S K Uthappa have been purchased at this season’s auction. To promote state level hockey, three Odia players Anand Lakra, Amit Rohidas and Stanli Victor Minz have also been purchased.
Malak Singh, Pardeep Mor, Abhinav Kumar Pandey, England and Great Britain’s Adam Dixon, Netherlands’ Quirjlin Caspers, Australia’s Matthew Willis, Mathew Dawson and Glenn Turner form the rest of the team. Recently the team got its new coach in the form of Mark William Hager.
