Replying to a written query by BJP MLA Dilip Ray on Saturday in the Assembly, the Odia Language Literature & Culture Minister said that the Centre was given a proposal to set up two Odia chairs at the Central University in Gandhinagar and the University of Hyderabad in name of two Odia poets. The proposal is currently in progress.
While the Odia language chair in the University of Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh will be set up in name of Bhaktakabi Madhusudan Rao, the other chair in the Central University of Gujarat will be named after Utkal Bharati Kuntala Kumari Sabat.
Notably, the State government has already set up Odia language chairs at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi and the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Uttar Pradesh to promote the language besides encouraging research on it. While the Odia chair was named after Adi Kabi Sarala Das at the JNU, the chair at the BHU was set up in name of Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja.
