Puri, Sept 16:
The district administration today began the process for closure of 11 beach side hotels in Puri, the pilgrim town of Odisha.
According to reports, the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) had served closure notices on these 11 hotels for violation of pollution norms under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) rules.
In gross violation of the orders of the Board, these hotels had been releasing waste water to the sea thereby polluting the beach and the sea water.
As part of the closure drive, the district administration has disconnected power and water connections to these hotels while demolition of three hotels on the beachfront began today in the presence of armed policemen and senior district officials, reports said.
