Probe begins into Raju Saha encounter in Odisha’s Sambalpur

Investigation into the death of Raju Saha, a dreaded anti-social who was killed in an encounter with the police on the outskirts of Odisha’s Sambalpur town on October 2 this year, has begun.

According to reports, all items seized after the encounter were produced in the Sambalpur SDJM court on Sunday. The seized items were later sealed in the presence of the magistrate and sent to the State Forensic Laboratory in Bhubaneswar.

“The sealed items include two pistols of Raju Saha, one revolver of Sambalpur SP Akhileswar Singh and one revolver of SI Dhabaleswar Sahu, who was injured in the counter, eight live cartridges, blood-stained soil collected from the spot, the post mortem report and the medical report of the injured SI. Apart from this, the statements of the policemen involved in the encounter have also been sent to the laboratory,” said DSP Sinestin Tiga, who is investigating the case.

Stating that the efforts were on to submit the charge-sheet of the case within three months, he, however, sai the filing of the charge sheet could be extended if necessary.

He said a full-fledged investigation would begin after the police get the reports from the Forensic Laboratory.

It may be mentioned that Saha was killed in an encounter with the police at Dengasargi on the outskirts of Sambalpur on October 2 this year.
