Jagatsingpur, Feb 16:
Angry over non fulfillment of their demands, pro- POSCO villagers today razed to ground a 180-metre stretch of boundary wall of the South Korean steel major’s proposed steel plant project area at Nuagaon near Paradip in Jagatsingpur district.
Agitated villagers who had been supporting the project all along said the company was going ahead with construction work without paying any heed to their 14-point charter of demands, despite earlier promises.
The villagers have also set the Public Relations camp office of Posco and the IDCO office at Nuagaon on fire. However, no FIR has been lodged with the police so far, sources said.
These villagers who have been agitating over the last several weeks for fulfillment of their set of old demands said work on the projectwill be allowed to begin only after the matter is decided at the RPDAC meeting.
No one from the company or from the administration was available for comments.
