Prime accused in the sensational murder of Odisha’s Umarkote MLA Jagabandhu Majhi, Naxal leader Jani Salem of the Chhattisgarh Mainpur division of the outlawed CPI(Maoist) has surrendered in Andhra Pradesh.
Salem surrendered before the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) headquarters at Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh on January 31, informed Brijesh Kumar Ray, S P, Nabrangpur. He said Satyanand Patra, IIC of Kundei police station and some officers of the Anti-Naxal Cell have left for Hyderabad to interrogate Salem.
Ray said a clear picture would only emerge after the team returns back from Hyderabad.
It may be mentioned here that miscreants had shot at MLA Jagabandhu Majhi and his PSO Prasant Patra from point blank range at Gona Hatpada under Raighar block in Odisha’s Nawarangpur district on September 24, 2011 while he was distributing forest land pattas to beneficiaries under the Forest Rights Act.
The Odisha government had then ordered for a probe into the murder by the Crime Branch police.
