Bhubaneswar, May 14:
Priests, astrologers and sundry soothsayers in Odisha never had it so good. Cashing in on the anxiety of the politicians, which is increasing with each passing hour as counting day nears, they are raking in the moolah like never before.
For all their bravado in public, politicians, as a rule, are a highly god fearing lot and great believers in things like fate and stars. And that precisely is what the soothsayers are cashing in on.
Politicians of all hues, including of the red variety, have been doing the mandatory rounds of temples, holding elaborate pujas and organising jagyans to seek divine intervention to ensure their win in the just concluded elections.
They are also paying the customary visit to the astrologer to seek ways of warding off evil effects of the stars and propitiating the gods, unmindful of the fact that their fates have already been sealed in the EVMs. But try telling them that and you would, in all likelihood, get a mouthful from the concerned politician.
‘Business’ has been good since the beginning of April, when the state went to polls, aver the soothsayers.
“Many candidates are rushing to the temples seeking the Lord’s blessings to ensure their victory in the elections. Sometimes, the supporters of politicians and political parties approach us independently seeking divine help,” said a priest in Bhubaneswar.
The astrologers and pandits are charging high amount to perform Pujas for the candidates as their business shoot up manifold.
