Nayagarh, Dec 9:
Unable to bear the pressure from depositors, Malati Sahu(20), a chit fund agent, committed suicide on Saturday.
Malati of Pradhansahi in Itamati village of Nayagarh district, who had worked as an agent for a chit fund company Icore-E-Services Limited, hanged herself in the wee hours of Saturday. Already under a lot of pressure from the depositor who had lost their hard earned money to the fraudulent company, Malati lost all hope after Finance minister Prasanna Acharya failed to set a time limit for refund of money to chit fund investors in the state assembly, her father Gangadhar Sahu said.
Malati, who worked for a local NGO, doubled as an agent for the chit fund company to supplement her family income, said her father.
Depositors flocked to Malati’s house seeking refund of their money after Icore-E-Services Limited, closed its branch office in Nayagarh some eight months back. They were hurling invectives at Malati after the Finance minister’s statement in the assembly, said Gangadhar.
Gangadhar claimed that he, along with a former sarpanch, had met and informed the inspector in-charge of the Itamati police station about his daughter’s suicide, but was advised to cremate her body immediately.
However, inspector in-charge of Itamati police station Manoj Satpathy said he was not aware of the suicide.
