Bhubaneswar: Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday requested Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda to send an MCI team to the Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College in Odisha so that it can be made functional.

In a letter to Nadda, Pradhan requested him to direct Medical Council of India (MCI) officials to conduct second inspection at the hospital in Baripada for commencement of admission process.

“The construction work of this medical college is completed and to make the college functional, MCI has to carry out second inspection and submit an assessment report so that the process of admission can commence for the academic session 2018-19,” he said.

The admission into the MBBS course in the medical college hangs in balance as the institute is yet to receive permission from the MCI.

“I sincerely urge you to direct the concerned officials of MCI for immediate visit to Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College, Baripada to conduct the inspection so that medical college can be made functional,” said Pradhan, who hails from Odisha.

The college had become operational in the last academic session 2017-18 after it received conditional Letter of Permission from the MCI after the intervention of the Supreme Court’s oversight committee.

However, the visit of the MCI officials is essential for obtaining permission for admission for the 2018-19 academic session.

Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College with an intake capacity of 100 seats is part of the five medical colleges that the state government is setting up in collaboration with the Centre under the central sponsored schemes (CSS).
