Prices of potato, which have reached Rs 30 a kg in the Twin City in the last two days, are likely to stabilise soon with the arrival of 63 truckloads from West Bengal on Tuesday. Of the fresh arrival, 48 are meant for sale in Bhubaneswar and 15 in Cuttack.

Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare department officials said the trucks have arrived after the department requested its counterparts in neighbouring West Bengal to release at least few trucks to ease the crisis.

The prices of potatoes, the one item that most Odias cannot do without, shot up to Rs 30 a kg in the retail market here after West Bengal stopped its transportation to other states.
