Puri, Mar 19:
The modern bus stand built in Malatipatpur in Puri district of Odisha at a cost of Rs 100 crore during the Nabakalebar celebrations has already developed cracks with a portion of its roof caving in on Friday.
The bus stand was built around 10 km away from the Puri town to facilitate tourists into the holy town during the grand Nabakalebar festivities.
Built in just under 10 months, the bus stand has turned into a ghost station with no local buses and only inter-state buses stopping here.
The cave in within one year has raised a question about the poor materials used in the construction.
Transport department had constructed the modern bus stand at Malatipatpur along the Bhubaneswar-Puri National Highway (NH) to regulate traffic during the upcoming Nabakalebar rituals of the presiding deities of the Shri Jagannath temple.
