Keonjhar: In yet another incident of poll violence, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Niranjan Patnaik has been injured after his vehicle was attacked by some miscreants during an election rally in Odisha’s Keonjhar district today.

The incident took place at Bhandaripoda Chaak under Ghasipura Assembly constituency this afternoon. Incidentally, Patnaik is contesting the polls from this seat.

Apart from Patnaik, five to seven Congress workers were also injured in the attack. Three of them have been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

The OPCC President filed a police complaint at Ramchandrapur police station alleging BJD men were involved in the incident.

Going a step ahead, the Keonjhar District Congress Working President Ratikant Baral claimed local MLA and Minister Badri Narayan Patra’s son Debasish Patra’s direct involvement in the attack.

He also alleged that some of their election campaign vehicles were vandalised by the BJD “goons”.

The Keonjhar SP Jay Narayan Pankaj said “the matter is being under investigation and stringent action will be taken against the culprits”.

Keonjhar will go to the polls in the third phase, on April 23.
