Balangir/Titlagarh, Dec 17:
While the four-member team of state Crime Branch police arrived at Titlagarh on Monday night to probe into the murder of state Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BYJD) secretary Abhimanyu Sahu, Balangir SP R Prakash said the police, on the basis of preliminary investigation, have reasons to suspect that the murder was the fallout of a political rivalry.
“Besides, police have got also some vital clues from the CCTV footage from a hotel near the place where Sahu was murdered”, he told reporters here on Monday night.
Prakash, who had an on-the-spot investigation on Sunday, told reporters here that the police had investigated into the business and political background of the slain BJD leader, and had ruled out business rivalry as a possible reason behind the murder.
Sahu had recently launched Lok Sampark Abhiyan in several areas of Titlagarh as he was hopeful of contesting the ensuing Assembly elections as a BJD candidate.
According to the family members, Sahu had returned to his house at about 10 pm on Friday after attending a function at Redhakhol.
As usual, he had gone for a morning walk on Sunday. He was escorted by his servant Bhima.
However, he came back to the house after a while and again went out for the morning walk after drinking some water.
Though Sahu usually goes towards Kumuda hills, on Sunday he had gone towards Chandupala.
The SP said that the footage captured by a CCTV camera in a nearby hotel showed some people had moved towards Chandupala in a white Bolero jeep, an Ambassador car and a bike.
Even Sahu’s servant has also said that he had seen the white Bolero jeep on his return to his house after leaving Sahu midway to Chandupala.
“Judging from the blood stains found at the place of occurrence and the blood-soaked tracksuit of Sahu, it is suspected that the miscreants might have killed him inside the vehicle after lifting him from the road and later thrown his body on the roadside”, Prakash said.
He also said that from the nature of the crime, police suspect the involvement of professional killers who were hired to eliminate Sahu.
Sources in the locality said that some unidentified people had consumed liquor at the Girls’s High School ground on Saturday night from where some empty liquor bottles and water pouches have been found.
Meanwhile, at a press briefing here on Monday, senior Congress leader Narasingh Mishra alleged that some senior BJD leaders were behind Sahu’s murder
“The murder was an outcome of intra-party bickering”, he claimed.
