‘Police Uncle’ – An initiative to make cops child-friendly in Odisha


Jagatsinghpur: In an initiative to drive away police fear among children, a statue known as ‘Police Uncle’ was unveiled here in the district.

The statue, the first in the country, symbolizes the bonding between children and police. The initiative is aimed at establishing healthy relationship between cops and public.

Odisha DGP Dr RP Sharma inaugurated the statue ‘Police Uncle’ installed on the premises of the SP’s office in Jagatsinghpur town on Friday aiming to make the cops child-friendly.

Usually, the children get afraid of men in uniform. The statue ‘Police Uncle’ is expected remove fear from their mind. It will create positive thought towards police among the kids and they will feel secured, said DGP Sharma.

He lauded the efforts of Jagatsinghpur SP Jayanarayan Pankaj for his noble thought, which will help the police personnel of other districts to be public-friendly.

He suggested police to develop friendly relationship with public and create fear among the criminals.
