Police outpost OIC dies in car accident in Odisha’s Rourkela

Rourkela: Officer-in-charge (OIC) of Kuarmunda police outpost in Odisha’s Rourkela, Manoj Kumar Nayak died after a car in which he was returning home rammed against a road divider near Bisra chhak here late last night.

The accident took place around 1 AM when Nayak was returning to his official residence at Sector-19 here in the car after completion of his duty hours.

He reportedly lost control over the wheels near Bisra chhak following which the vehicle dashed against a road divider. The cop sustained critical injuries and got stuck inside the car due to the collision.

On being informed about the mishap, Plant Site police reached the spot, rescued the victim and took him to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) here. However, he was declared brought dead by doctor.

Nayak had earned accolades for him in the Police Department as a dutiful officer and won the ‘Best Sub-inspector’ award. A pall of gloom descended on the police fraternity after the death of Nayak.
