New Delhi, Nov 2:

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said police were not letting him go to a police station to meet the family of a retired soldier who committed suicide.

“My vehicle surrounded by police. Not allowing me to leave,” the Aam Aadmi Party leader tweeted from outside the Lady Hardinge Hospital which had conducted the autopsy of ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal.

Grewal took poison and killed himself here on Tuesday evening demanding implementation of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme, igniting an opposition onslaught on the government.

Kejriwal told journalists at the site that “Modi Raj” was not permitting a Chief Minister to meet the family of a soldier who was dead.

“Spoke to his (Grewal’s) son just now. He said he was manhandled by police. They have been detained in CP (Connaught Place) police station. Am going there now to meet family,” Kejriwal tweeted.

It was just after that the AAP leader said police had blocked his car.

Earlier, the police detained Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi — the former after he met the dead man’s son and the latter for trying to meet the grieving family.

Gandhi was let off after some 70 minutes, only to be detained again. (IANS)
