Police and Maoists exchanged fire at Lakhpadar near Niyamgiri hills in Odisha’s Rayagada district today.
The exchange of fire took place following explosion of a landmine set up by Maoists in Lakhpadar village.
While a camp of the Red Rebels was destroyed by the police and the DVF during the operations, the Maoists managed to escape. Five live cartridges, uniforms and a landmine were seized from the camp, police said.
Some Maoists are suspected to have been hurt during the exchange of fire, local sources revealed.
“They fired at the security personnel during combing and search operations. Following which security personnel returned fire. The exchange of fire took place for around 45 minutes. After exchange of fire stopped security personnel searched the entire area. Several articles used by the Maoists were seized which included a tiffin bomb,” said Rayagada SP K Siva Subramani briefing reporters after the operations.
Combing and search operations have been intensified in the area, police sources revealed.
