According to reports, several people of the nearby areas were demonstrating in front of the ashram of the Baba demanding clarification from him about the reports flashed in a local TV channel. Sensing trouble, police tried to pacify the demonstrators. But as the irate people refused to budge, police later resorted to lathi charge to disperse them.

Till reports last came in, two platoons of armed police force and two local magistrates were deployed in and around the ashram to ward off any untoward incident.

In the meanwhile, acting on the letter of Aul MLA Debendra Sharma, Kendrapara collector Debaraj Senapati today asked the district superintendent of police (SP) Satish Gajviye to probe into the incident.

Following the directive of the collector, the SP has asked the sub divisional police officer (SDPO) to take up the investigation.

Talking to the media, Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjib Marik said several complaints have been lodged in various police stations against Sarathi Baba.

“Appropriate action would be taken after investigations,” he added.
