Police bust women looters’ gang in Odisha capital, 3 held


Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate police busted a women looters’ gang here with arrest of three women in connection with major loot from an SUV driver in the city.

The Capital Police on Thursday arrested Kadambini Rout alias Barsha (25), Chinmayee Jena alias Chinu (28) of Saliasahi slum area and Bidulata Swain (52) of Kesura.

The trio is accused of looting valuables after assaulting a driver of an SUV late on Wednesday evening.

Police recovered a laptop, a mobile phone and cash of Rs 5,000 from the trio and forwarded them to the court.

According to reports, the three used to loot the passengers after asking for a lift. Once they enter the vehicle they loot the passengers and drivers.

On Wednesday night, the trio had stopped an SUV at Master Canteen square seeking a lift. When the driver Niranjan Behera allowed them to enter the vehicle, the circumstance turned out to be a nightmare for the driver as the three women looters assaulted him and looted the valuables.

Police started investigation into the incident following a complaint lodged by the driver at the Capital Police station on Wednesday night.

The women looters were nabbed while they were planning for another loot in the city. They confessed to the crime following interrogation at the police station.
