Police Tuesday arrested three criminals and claimed to have busted an inter-district gang of robbers allegedly involved in robberies in petrol pumps in Odisha’s Ganjam and Kandhamal districts.
Police arrested the accused from Haradakhandi area in Brahmapur city.
A pistol, a revolver, three live cartridges and a motorcycle were seized from their possession, a police officer said.
They have been identified as Jhumura Biswal of Bhatapada village, Uma Shankar Bisoi of Balipada and S Kalia alias Santosh Reddy of Kabisuryanagar.
SDPO Brahmapur P K Patnaik said three other members of the gang which was allegedly involved in at least six petrol pump robberies in Ganjam and Kandhamal districts were absconding.
The gang had allegedly looted petrol pumps at Purushottampur and Digapahandi in Ganjam district in the month of February.
IIC Baidyanathpur A K Mishra said the gang had also allegedly committed dacoity in filling stations at Sorada, Sheragada, Khodasingi in Ganjam district and Daringibadi in Kandhamal district in the month of May.
Police said the gang used to raid petrol pumps at unearthly hours and terrorize the staff on duty by firing in the air before decamping with the cash from the counter.
A manhunt to nab the other three gang members has been launched, added Mishra.
