Police begin combing op along Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Keonjhar border

Acting on the intelligence inputs about the presence of some Maoist leaders along Dhenkanal-Keonjhar-Jajpur border areas during the observance of the Saheed Diwas at Gobaraghati area in Jajpur district last month, police forces of the three districts, Special Operation Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) have intensified combing operations in the area.

According to reliable sources, a group of Maoist cadres had assembled at a place under the Kankadahada police station limits on January 29.

Acting on the information, a police team of Kankadahada police, has undertaken a combing operation in Rekuti, Bahadapal, Baiganapal, Ekulasekula, Koi, Kalaspur, Kandharakateni and Kaina Sahi which are located inside forested zones.

The Jajpur police have also started combing operation in Aradhapal, Chingudipal, Khuntapasi and Ragada areas while the Keonjhar police have begun combing operations in Telkoi, Kaliahata, Ramachandrapur and Kerang areas.

According to sources, a large group of Maoist cadres from Andhra Pradesh and Chhattishgarh along with their Odisha counterparts had arrived in the border zone of the three districts to observe the Saheed Diwas in memory of 14 tribals who were killed in police during a demonstration at Kalinganagar on January 2, 2006.

Reports say, many of them are still present in this area and planning to rebuild their organisation with the help of local tribal people.
