The Commissionerate Police on Thursday arrested a man and his associate on charges of impersonating as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)of the State Staff Selection Board and duping a jewellery shop owner of Rs 10 lakh.

Accused Satya Narayan Mishra (33) of Bhatapada in Balasore and his accomplice Jitendra Malla of Nayagarh were produced before the sub divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) here on Thursday evening.

While Mishra impersonated as the DSP, Malla pretended he was a constable. The duo duped the owner of a jewellery shop at the Rabi Talkies area here by promising to supply him gold at a throw-away price.

Failing to get the gold jewellery as assured by the fake DSP even after paying the money, the victim lodged a complaint with Laxmisagar Police.

Acting on the complaint, the police laid a trap to nab them. They were finally arrested from an apartment in the city.
