Berhampur, Aug 25:

Police have arrested two persons on Wednesday in connection with the murder of a woman after she protested against eve-teasing of her daughter at Bhabarada village on Sunday under Polasara police station limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district.

The duo has been identified as Manoj Nahak and Narayan Nahak. The duo was arrested from outskirts of Belpunji, police said today.

Earlier, on Tuesday police had arrested another accused Akshay Sahu.

Notably, one Manoj Nahak of Bhabarada and his associates had passed lewd comments to a girl of the village. The parents of the girl had lodged a complaint with Polasara police in this regard.

Nahak and his friends attacked the girl’s father and mother on Sunday when the duo was working at a crop field. While the father of the girl managed to escape from the spot, the miscreants allegedly thrashed the girl’s mother with an iron rod. She was shifted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Polasara where she succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.

Irate locals on Monday had staged road blockade by keeping the body on the road and demanded immediate arrest of the accused. They had also ransacked the Polasara police station and torched a police jeep, motorcycles and bicycles inside the police station premises.
