Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Odisha-born star sprinter Dutee Chand on winning a silver medal in the women’s 100 metre final at the Asian Games at Jakarta on Sunday.

Taking to Twitter, the PM described the Odia girl is phenomenally talented.

The 22-year-old athlete became the second fastest woman in Asia after she clocked 11.32 seconds to bag the medal. The gold medal went to Edidiong Odiong of Bahrain, who clocked the time of 11.30s.

Similarly, Union Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore congratulated the sprinter for bagging the medal.

Earlier in the day, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik too praised Dutee for brilliant performance on the track.

“You have made the nation proud and Odisha could not have been prouder! Best wishes,” Naveen wrote on his Twitter handle.

Life hasn’t been easy for Dutee Chand, who had won a ‘gender case’ against the international federation at the Court of Arbitration for Sports, had run 11.56 in the Federation Cup in March and was not picked in the Indian team for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in 2014.
