The Justice PK Mohanty Commission of Enquiry probing the sensational Bebina Behera gang-rape and murder case of Pipili will take a call on whether to cross-examine Agriculture Minister Pradip Maharathy in the case after conducting a hearing on the issue on May 2.
During the Commission’s 82nd hearing at the Circuit House here on Saturday, the counsel for deceased victim Bebina Behera’s family cited that Shatrughan Pande, who is better known as the village headman of Arjun Gada village had stated in an affidavit filed before the Commission earlier that he had read about allegations of Pradip Maharathy’s involvement in the case in newspapers and had also watched similar news reports on news channels.
Accepting the request of the counsel for Bebina Behera’s family, the Commission has issued directions for summoning Pande for cross-examination.
The Commission decided to take a call on whether to issue summons to Pradip Maharathy for cross-examination in the case during its next hearing. Maharathy too has filed an affidavit before the Commission in connection with the case. The Commission’s next hearing is scheduled for May 2.
Nishikant Mishra, Debasish Panda, Jyotiprakash Patnaik, Pravatranjan Das, Akshay Kumar Nanda and PK Khuntia represented different parties in the case during the hearing.
