Cuttack, Nov 30:
Responding to a PIL seeking imposition of total prohibition of liquor in the state, the Orissa High Court on Friday issued notices to the state and Union Governments seeking replies from them within eight weeks.
The PIL has been filed by nine eminent persons of the state which included social worker Tulasi Munda and former High Court judge Choudhury P K Mishra.
A division bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice A K Goel and Justice A K Rath issued notices to all respondents named in the PIL after conducting a preliminary hearing on the PIL.
The petitioners have also urged the High Court to direct the state government to stop the spread of liquor trade in the state by closing down liquor shops in a phased manner.
