Chandikhol, May 27:

‘Odia Chetana Parishad’, an organisation based at Balichandrapur in Odisha’s Jajpur district Monday filed a PIL in the Odisha High Court seeking a stay on the distribution of the new ‘distorted’ edition of Odia Barnabodha (Odia primer) published by the state-run Odia Bhasha Pratisthan (OBP) to innocent school students till it is rectified.

The PIL (10054/14) seeking restraint on the distribution of the controversial new Odia primer to school students was filed in the High Court by Anant Debadarshi, convenor, Odia Chetana Parishad.

Advocate Pradipta Kishore Bhuyan, arguing on behalf of the petitioner, prayed to the court for a stay on the distribution of the new edition of the Odia primer till the distortions are corrected.

The petitioner pointed out that the right to culture, language and script is guaranteed by the constitution.

The petitioner has made the state government’s School and Mass Education secretary and director OBP as opposite parties.
