Cuttack, Sep 9:
An advocate of Odisha High Court has filed a PIL in the Court seeking a CBI inquiry against tainted Godman Sarathi Baba and former Kendrapara SP Satish Gajbhiye.
The PIL filed by Advocate Dipti Ranjan Mohapatra mentions that Odisha Police Crime Branch is not investigating the issue from all possible angles. The right sections have not been pressed against Sarathi Baba in the case filed against him. Besides, the progress of the investigation by the state agency has not been satisfactory.
The petitioner said the Sarathi episode has started a new chapter in the state. The silent approval of the authorities to his promotion on TV led to thousands of common men believing him and giving him an opportunity to loot a wide range of people from various sections of the society starting from IAS/IPS officers to students.
The PIL also alleged that a proper investigation is not being carried out against suspended IPS officer and former Kendrapara SP Satish Gajbhiye, who manhandled a lawyer and used disproportionate force against the agitating public demanding Sarathi’s arrest.
It further questions the motive behind not arresting him and not using various applicable sections of IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act in the land grab case.
The advocate has prayed to the High Court to order investigation by CBI or some other central agency for a free and fair investigation into the entire Sarathi episode.
The PIL makes the state Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Law Secretary, DGP, Crime Branch, Kendrapara Collector, Satish Gajbhiye, Sarathi Baba, Kailash Mallick and Managing Directors of the private TV channel that hosted Ssarathi Baba’s sermons as parties in the PIL.
