A woman died and twenty persons, mostly students, sustained injuries when a picnic bus carrying them collided head-on with a truck near Maichheli village under Nuagaon police limits in Odisha’s Nayagarh district early this morning.


The deceased was identified as Tuni Pradhan, an ASHA worker hailing from Khandapada here.

While the injured were admitted to a nearby hospital, two of them were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as their condition deteriorated.

According to reports, students of Veenapani Coaching Centre at Bhagabanpur under Bhapur block had yesterday gone to Sambalpur with their parents and tutors for picnic.

Tragedy struck when they were returning as the bus carrying them collided with a truck killing the woman and injuring others. Both the vehicles overturned under the impact of the collision.

On being informed, police reached the spot and started investigation.
