Odisha Sun Times Bureau

Brahmapur, May 21:

Unidentified gunmen looted Rs 40,000 from a salesman of a petrol pump in Sheragada in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Tuesday after injuring him, barely an hour before chief minister Naveen Patnaik arrived at the town to attend a thanksgiving ceremony, police said.

The incident happened when the police were busy with the CM’s security arrangements, sources said.

IIC Sheragada Bansidhar Kanhar said the injured salesman has been admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here and his condition is stated to be critical.

Two bike borne gunmen barged into the cash counter of the petrol pump located on the outskirts of Sheragada and asked the salesmen to hand over all the cash after firing a round in the air to scare them, Kanhar said.

The miscreants snatched away a bag containing  Rs 40,000 from one salesman while the other other salesman managed to run away from the scene with a bag containing cash, Kanhar said.

He said police has launched a search to nab the culprits.

Miscreants had snatched a money-bag from a salesman of a petrol pump at Khodasingi under BN Pur police limits here on Monday, police said.
