Bhubaneswar, Sep 2:
Ever since fortune-teller turned self-proclaimed godman Sura Baba alias Surendranath Mishra’s empire on the outskirts of the Odisha capital collapsed with his arrest, more and more women are mustering courage to come out in the media to expose the sordid tales of his sexual perversion.
Two women today brought serious allegations on Kanak TV, our sister concern, that Sura Baba had a particular fancy to cohabit with newly wed women even before the chaturthi (the fourth night of Hindu marriage) of their marriage adding that their families have been shattered due to Sura Baba.
A woman from Nilgiri has alleged that the Baba had asked her to come to him after her chaturthi and had forced her mother-in-law for it. Sura Baba had allegedly told her mother-in-law that if she failed to send her daughter-in-law to him after the chaturthi, misfortune would strike her son. The woman alleged that since she didn’t go to the Baba, her in-laws threw her out of their home.
“The Baba had told my mother-in-law that misfortune will strike her son if she did not submit her daughter-in-law to him after getting married. After staying for a day in my in-laws place after my marriage, my mother-in-law had told me that you will go to meet the Baba clad in a new saree and you will do whatever he asks you to do,” said the woman from Nilgiri.
Another woman too has brought similar allegations against Sura Baba.
This woman said that her family was broken because of the Baba adding that she would be very happy if the Baba is hanged.
“I did not know anything. Will anyone go to any ashram after chaturthi? My husband had objected to me going there. But my mother-in-law had told me that if I don’t go to the ashram and submit myself to the Baba, her son may die or a major misfortune may strike him. It was only because of my mother-in-law’s persuasion that I visited the ashram. On the day of December 25, I, with my mother-in-law, my younger sister-in-law and my niece had gone to the Trahi Achyuta ashram at Bhubaneswar. My mother-in-law had told me that we will stay there for a night. I stayed there for a night. I was told by my mother-in-law to go to the Baba wearing a new saree and do whatever the Baba asks me to do. I too had agreed to go, but my mother-in-law and sister-in-law woke up at 3 am and after taking their bath had gone to attend the night college. They had also asked me to go; but since I had not taken my bath, I couldn’t go. They had left my niece with me. I could get some hints about the Baba’s exploits from some newly weds at the ashram. My husband had said his mother was saying that I should not come back now. I had asked him what my fault is. He asked me why I was not agreeing to my mother-in-law’s advice and not staying with Sura Baba and submitting to him,” said the other woman on Kanak TV.
