Puri, Oct 21:

About 150 peacocks and 500 sand deer have gone missing from the Sanapatana forest in Brahmagiri block of Puri district, which was lashed by the raging sea during the Cyclone Phailin on October 12 this year.

The 400-hectare forest that stretched up to 8 km from the Ramabharatia Chilika new river mouth from Satapada to Sanapatna was an abode for peacocks and sand deer.

A team of senior forest officials, during its visit to the forest area after the cyclone, had asked the Sanapatana beat ranger and forest guards to study the missing of these wild species from the forest.
