Bhubaneswar, Aug 26;

The disciplinary committee of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) is all set to recommend ‘stringent action’ against senior party leader Soumya Ranjan Patnaik to the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

A decision to this effect was taken at the meeting of the disciplinary committee meeting today where Patnaik’s reply to the show cause notice served on him a few days ago was taken up for consideration, sources privy to the meeting told OST. “We have made up our mind,” the source said.

Officially, however, Committee chairman Harihar Karan maintained that no decision had been taken on the issue as of now. “We will discuss the issue further before sending our recommendation to the AICC,” Karan told media persons after the meeting. ‘If necessary, we may sit again,” he said.

Patnaik declined to comment on the move saying it was premature to talk about it at this stage. “Why should I be reacting on hearsay? Let them announce their recommendation first,” he told OST over phone.

Patnaik has been in the eye of a storm brewing in the state unit of the Congress party after he was served a show cause notice for alleged anti-party activities. The Sankalp Yatra he has undertaken has been the major bone of contention for his ongoing show down with the PCC leadership. On his part, the former Bhubaneswar MP has consistently maintained that far from being a design against the interests of the party and its present leadership, the Yatra is actually aimed at reviving the party organisation at the booth level and ensure its return to power in the next Assembly elections.
