Balasore: While the Vigilance department has fastened its belt to put a check on percentage culture in government departments, the sleuths today apprehended a Panchayat Executive Officer from Odisha’s Balasore district while accepting a bribe.
The accused identified as Arupananda Roul, Panchayat Executive Officer of Kalyani Gram Panchayat under Bahanaga Block in Balasore district was arrested from Soro.
Officials of Balasore Vigilance Division caught Roul red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20, 000 from the complainant identified as Narendra Kumar Pal.
Roul had allegedly demanded the illegal gratification as his percentage for transferring Rs One lakh to the account of Pal through net banking for renovation of Baunsagadia tank.
As agreed upon, Pal met Roul at Soro where the former dropped the packet containing the money in the latter’s hand bag. The anti-corruption wing officials waiting to apprehend him, nabbed the accused and the bribe money was also recovered.
Following the arrest, his residence and office were being search to unearth disproportionate assets.
