Patnagarh child theft: Baby rescued by Odisha police, two held

Balangir: Police today rescued the baby boy who was allegedly stolen by a woman from the Patnagarh Sub-Divisional Hospital in Odisha’s Balangir district on March 6.

Two persons, including a woman, have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the incident, police sources said.

Jayanti Tandi, wife of Rudramani Tandi, had on March 6 given birth to a baby boy at the hospital. Later, a woman dressed up as an ASHA worker reportedly took the newborn on the pretext of checking his health condition and fled the spot with a person who was waiting outside the hospital premises on a motorcycle.

A complaint in this regard was filed at the police station by Rudramani. During investigation, police traced the accused duo after examining CCTV footage in which the particular two-wheeler’s registration number plate was visible.
