Asking for empowerment and equality with men in society, tribal women from five states gathered at Rairangpur, Mayurbhanj district of Odisha, yesterday.
The women gathered under the adivasi mahila morcha called for a equal standing of tribal women with men.
Women should be empowered and should have equal rights in mining and farming, as well as in language, culture and tradition said former MP Salkhan Murmu, the chief guest of the event.
The time has come for women to be given equal rights with men, he added.
The adivasi women from five states Odisha, Bihar, Assam, Jharkhand and West Bengal had gathered in Rairangpur on Sunday. The guests garlanded the statue of Pt Raghunath Murmu and presented tribal dance during the occasion.
General secretary Jabarani Baske presided the meet while state president Maloha Mandi was also present.
